Could Syria become Iran’s 'Vietnam'? |
2019-12-17 |
[Jpost] Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett warned Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneouslytaking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militiasto extend the regime's influence. The word Iranis a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGCis a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA),the term Supreme Guideis a cognate form of either Shahor Führeror maybe both, and they hate that although it appeared to be establishing a ring of fire around Israel, Syria could be Iran’s Vietnam. "We need to move from containment to attack," the defense minister said last week. |

#3 No. But it can become Iran's Belgium. |

#2 No more so than Yemen. Everybody in the region has spent some time mired in that cesspool. We don't hear the same level of "concern" though... |

#1 Seems far-fetched. Iran uses proxies. Assad is more in control than ever - there's zero chance of his being overthrown. Iran's next door and can easily influence events on the sly and without making huge commitments. The Iranians hold a lot of cards here. Best to get out entirely. |
