Testosterone and prostate cancer (Nature article)
2019-10-31
h/t Instapundit
The relationship between testosterone therapy and prostate cancer continues to challenge historic and current beliefs. A new cohort analysis revealed a ~33% reduction in prostate cancer incidence in men with increased testosterone use. The mechanisms underlying this protective effect are unclear, but these findings challenge current paradigms and warrant further investigation.

#3  One of the treatments for PC is Lupron to suppress testosterone production. Lupron is used to chemically castrate the man with PC. The theory is that testosterone feeds prostate cancer. Not everyone buys this theory. Another theory is that PC is the result if imbalances between male and female hormones. The theory that seems to make the most sense is that PC is the result of certain inherited genetic defects. There are other theories as well. About 16% of males are likely to get PC. Treatment involves surgery, radiation and/or drugs/chemo. Gene therapy and immunotherapy, are recent areas of development.
