Concerned Users Worry As Twitter Suspends Several ‘OSINT’ News Accounts
2019-06-17
To note.
[Jpost] A group of popular Twitter accounts that tweet about open source intelligence (OSINT) and generally try to highlight developing and breaking news stories were suspended on Saturday night for unspecified reasons. They join a growing list of account suspensions -sometimes for political reasons, but also for more arbitrary reasons that have alarmed users of the popular social media platform.
As of 12.30 Sunday, INTELLIPUS was back up. ELINT News is still down. Intel Crab is still up, blames suspensions on India.
Users feared that censorship or targeted complaints by a foreign government had resulted in the suspension. Steve Lookneer, a News Anchor at Agenda Free TV pointed out that an account called Beep Delete was suspended on Saturday night. #4  No, no. I'm totally for sharing intel, whistle-blowing and all. Hell, I even cheered for Snowden when his email dump buried Clinton's campaign.

I meant that sources should differ from the usual twitter riff-raff and have a separate platform, something whose credibility can be defined from the ground up. If I expose my NSA sealed files on twitter tomorrow, I look like another conspiracy nut looking for attention. So the credibility starts at a low number from the get go, even if my intel's good, no ? It gives the deniers and gaggers more leverage against me.

#3  Can information over Twitter be considered intelligence ?

Interesting question from a 'justification' to shut down for national security sort of angle. Censorship is censorship. The only question is who is doing it, not whether its ethical or not.

#2  Can information over Twitter be considered intelligence ? Though some analysts do use data generated from running patterns and language in posts through algorithms for intelligence, the reliability rating of that too is mostly E4.

The sources themselves could collaborate and have an independent portal to share stuff anonymously. Isn't Twitter like a "come-and-arrest-me" invite ?
