2019-06-11 |
[RT] Hong Kong police used batons and pepper spray as they clashed with crowds of protesters outside the city’s parliament. Hundreds of thousands filled the city’s streets to oppose a bill allowing extradition to mainland China. Hundreds of protesters stormed police barricades on Sunday night while trying to force themselves into the city’s parliament building, local media reported. The officers, in full riot gear, pushed the crowd away using batons and pepper spray. Clashes were also reported along the Admiralty section of the city’s business district where the parliament is based. The violence occurred after nearly 10 hours of massive peaceful protests against the controversial extradition bill. The organizers estimate that over a million people marched down Hennessy Road in central Hong Kong, denouncing the proposed legislation. |

#6 You know the Brits gained Hong Kong in a war to force the importation opium into China. We're talking cartel type business. Not that we didn't mess around with a little coup d'état in Hawaii, but we weren't pushing drugs across international borders and fighting the indigenous military to do so. |

#5 Unless they're willing to commit to massive urban warfare, they really don't have a choice. Britain doesn't have the strength or want to take them back, and China won't let anyone take them back. It was a stupid deal, on the level of Jimmy's Panama Debacle. |

#1 Apparently they are rejecting the notion of being extradited to the mainland to become organ donors. |
