Elon Musk's SpaceX raised over $1 bln in six months
2019-05-26
[DAWN] Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's SpaceX has raised more than $1 billion in financing in the last six months as it aims to roll out an ambitious high-speed internet service by using a constellation of satellites to beam signals from space.

The company raised $486.2 million in an equity offering, starting December, and another $535.7m in an offering that began in April, its regulatory filings on Friday showed.

The rocket company on Thursday launched the first batch of 60 small satellites into low-Earth orbit for Musk's new Starlink internet service.

Musk sees the Starlink venture as an important new revenue stream for his Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,-based company, whose launch service income he expects to top out at around $3bn a year.

Don't know what the respective endpoints will try to control.

#3  Does Mr. Musk plan to do the kind of monitoring and social nudging that Google, Facebook, Twitter, et al currently engage in so gleefully, 3dc?

#2  Also no reason, not to have Apple and Google devices working with his Internet. Since the net comes down to WiFi routers the routers could have a roaming login for service like Comcast does with it's roaming Xfinity login.
(for those without Comcast with Comcast you can have normal WiFi at home but roam to any Comcast WiFi with your Xfinity login even if it is unrelated to the owner's Comcast service.)
If enough places get StarLink you might be able to roam almost anywhere and not need Cellular except for an actual phone call. There is no reason in that reality that FaceTime or Skype shouldn't work.

#1  I think he will make way more off his StarLink than any of his other endeavors. It has the potential to be bigger than Comcast as it is world wide. I expect him to have deals with NetLinks, ESPN, SoccerNets etc.. maybe even Disney. I don't see him staying Internet only with that bandwidth. Also deals with the SmartTV makers ...
