[the drive] Rumor: Has the USA flown missions in the MidEast, recently, with the F-117s?

#4  Makes no logistical sense. F-22s can very well drop SDBs and are already patrolling there.

#3  Er there was a big rumour that British ship radar in the gulf could see the stealth aircraft during GW2.

#2  ....Short version: unlikely.

Long version: Fecking unlikely.

The flying -117s are, as M. Murcek suggests, just there to test sensors and other gear. The F-35s - which we now know have flown combat missions - are stealthier than the -117, faster, more maneuverable, and can shoot back.

#1  There are still some that fly routinely from Tonopah. What that means is subject to speculation. One possibility is to test the ability of new sensors to detect them.
