Fiat Chrysler to Add More Than 6,000 Jobs in Michigan, Lay Off Nearly 1,400 in Illinois
2019-03-03
[Free Beacon] Fiat Chrysler announced plans Tuesday to invest $4.5 billion in its existing Michigan plants and create nearly 6,500 new jobs as a result.

At the same time, the automaker said it will eliminate nearly 1,400 jobs at a plant in northern Illinois.

In Detroit, the investment will help "increase capacity to meet growing demand for its Jeep and Ram brands, including production of two new Jeep-branded white space products, as well as electrified models," according to a news release from the company.

"Three years ago, FCA set a course to grow our profitability based on the strength of the Jeep and Ram brands by realigning our U.S. manufacturing operations," Mike Manley, Fiat Chrysler's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "Today's announcement represents the next step in that strategy. It allows Jeep to enter two white space segments that offer significant margin opportunities and will enable new electrified Jeep products, including at least four plug-in hybrid vehicles and the flexibility to produce fully battery-electric vehicles."

#6  About second opinions:

Ever since I was a wee lad, I've always had a fear of someone under my bed at night.

So, I went to a shrink and told him: “I've got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there's somebody under it. I'm scared. I think I'm going crazy.”

“Just put yourself in my hands for one year," said the shrink. "Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.”

“How much do you charge?”

“Eighty dollars per visit,” replied the doctor.

“I'll sleep on it,” I said.

Six months later the doctor met me on the street. “Why didn't you come to see me about those fears you were having”? he asked.

“Well, eighty bucks a visit, three times a week for a year, is $12,480.00. A bartender cured me for $10.00. I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought me a new pickup truck.”

“Is that so?” With a bit of an attitude he said, “And how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?”

“He told me to cut the damn legs off the bed. Ain't nobody under there now.”

And that’s why getting a second opinion can be your best option.

#5  The two big blue water towers along Bus-20 at the Belvidere plant say JEEP. The holding lots are full of some sort of Jeep SUV, not the old military style jeep (or what passes for one today).

My observation and info is 8 months old, driving back from Port Washington, WI. Things, they may have changed. Updated info or 'second opinion' is advised.

#3  BLUF: "Since 2016, the company has been discontinuing production of compact cars in response to a shift in consumer demand toward SUVs and trucks, resulting in plant shifts in Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.

Chrysler Fiat said the layoffs at its Belvidere, Ill., plant will be effective in May and are a result of slowing consumer demand for the current Jeep Cherokee"

Go figure - responding to consumer demand. ALSO, less investment in failing high-tax Dem states

#2  My info is somewhat dated, but I believe that plant in Illinois employs about twice that number of people. It's likely going down to one production shift due to (as stated) unsold inventory.

The May-June time frame is about the time auto plants shut down for model change or 'changeover'. Could have something to do with that as well. The particular facility opened in about 1965 and has put a lot of beans on tables.

Anything about the confiscatory nature of the IL pols and judges dealing with the collapsing pension ponzi scam they rigged with the support of union money that they are now indenturing their tax base with?
