| Kashmir: Gunfight between rebels and Indian soldiers kills five |

| [Al Jazeera] At least five people have been killed in Indian-administered Kashmire as a shootout erupted between two Indian soldiers and three rebels in volatile Kulgam district in southern part of the region. Dilbagh Singh, the state police chief, told Al Jazeera that the violence came after Indian security forces launched an operation against the rebels in Kulgam's Turigam village on Sunday afternoon. "In the operation, we lost a police officer, Aman Thakur and one army soldier, who was injured and departed this vale of tears. The shootout is almost over," he said. Singh also said that the rebels killed in the incident belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), a Pak gang. "Two of them are foreigners, according to our preliminary information, and the identity of the third is not known yet," he said. |
