Megyn Kelly, formerly of NBC, to be paid in full
2019-01-12
[NYT] After a drawn-out negotiation period, NBC and Megyn Kelly have formally agreed to part ways.

The network and the onetime cable news star reached a final agreement on Friday, nearly three months after she wondered aloud on-air why it was inappropriate for white people to dress up in blackface for Halloween.

NBC and a representative for Ms. Kelly declined to reveal the details of the exit package. But according to two people familiar with the negotiations, Ms. Kelly was paid the outstanding balance on her contract, a figure that amounts to roughly $30 million. At the time of the separation, Ms. Kelly was in the middle of a three-year, $69 million contract with the network.

#7  She is an extremely clever lady.

She's going to picket close to $70m for barely completing 50% of her contract.

She never needs to work again. She can now say whatever she pleases, about anything, without fear of retribution or contract violation or anything, on whatever topic tickles her fancy, be it Halloween or weenies or smithereens. Oh, and she looks great, without plastic surgery or other BS.

Well done, Megyn.

#6  Excuse the error, I meant to say that she is NOT a poor plebe.

#5  It is unlikely that her lawyers got paid a percentage. She is a poor plebe suing a big company as a part of a class action lawsuit or what have you. She could afford to actually pay their exorbitant fees upfront and on time, rather than promise them money when she won the case. Her agent, on the other hand, almost certainly did get a percentage, which he undoubtedly earned by negotiating such an ironclad contract.

#4  >why it was inappropriate for white people to dress up in blackface

And why is asking that offensive?

Why is doing that offensive?

#3  If she was paid $30 million, her lawyers probably got $10 million of it.

#2  Is Scott Boras her agent?

#1  ...She had enough good sense to get an ironclad pay-or-play contract. There was little chance she'd ever lose a dime.

Lovely lady, but she doesn't have the brains the Good Lord gave a baseball.
