Democrats Try to Devise A Way To Dilute Trump's Judicial Picks |
2018-11-21 |
[Townhall] California Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D) and Kamala Harris (D) are utilizing their positions on the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee to try and have a say in who should fill vacancies in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and various district courts. The two legislators sent a letter to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone to let the Trump administration know that they're ready and willing to come to a compromise nominees. Why would he want to compromise? He has more Rs in the Senate now. He can easily tell you to go pound sand. Now that Justice Brett Kavanaugh is on the bench, Democrats have suddenly realized that President Trump has had a significant impact on the judicial system. They've been so focused on just the Supreme Court that they failed to realize ‐ or care ‐ that Trump was filling hundreds of vacancies at the district court level. It's like a light bulb went off in their head and suddenly they want to try to reduce the impact that conservatives will have on the court system. You know why? Because it's likely that district judges will then be considered for a judgeship on a circuit court and, eventually, the Supreme Court. Elections have consequences. Usually decades long ones. Hopefully Trump will tell them, "no deal." The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has given us some of the most liberally biased rulings. A conservative bent to the court would be a nationwide win. Breaking up the 9th would be a nationwide win, but I'll take a 9th with a conservative/originalist bend. |

#7 Is this another of their fever dreams, like the electors of the Electoral College voting against Trump instead of for him as they’d been elected to do, or the Republican senators suddenly deciding they hate him enough to impeach him, after whcih Hillary would somehow suddenly become president? After all, so long as they don’t have a veto-proof majority in the Senate, President Trump can veto anything that somehow gets through both houses of Congress. |

#6 I worry that whenever the pendulum swings back to Dem's control they will add more liberal judges adding to the 9 SCOTUS to regain power. Maybe it's time to have Congress say no more than 9. |

#5 He's sure to appoint a female and you can't accuse a woman of sexually harassing people at an underage drinking party can you? Even if someone is willing to testify that she was seen handing a person a drink in a red solo cup at the party no one cares. |

#4 Elections have consequences. No reason to compromise in the Senate; Flake, Corker, and McCain are gone. Feinstein, Harris and other Dems are worried about their arses being subpoenaed into a hearing or GJ. |

#3 Civility. Bipartisanship. They burnt that bridge in L'Affair Kavanaugh and then turned around and defecated on the ashes... |
