Feinstein accuses Kavanaugh of sexual mis-behavior with a girl when in high school
2018-09-14
WASHINGTON — The senior Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee referred information involving Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, to federal investigators on Thursday, but the senator declined to make public what the matter involved.

Two officials familiar with the matter say the incident involved possible sexual misconduct between Judge Kavanaugh and a woman when they were both in high school. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

#30  This sounds more like reuse/rewrite of a ‘Kennedy’ story that gets retold on the Kennedy compound after few scotches.

#29   If I were on the left, I'd give some thought to the potential consequences of personally pissing off a guy who's very likely to be the next SCt justice. Do they imagine that doing so improves the likelihood of Roe being kept intact?

They're expecting him to be "chastened", not vengeful, kind of like Bush in the wake of the 2000 election madness.

And given the track record of "conservatives" in these matters, it's not a bad strategy.

#28  Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened.

This describes a classic bar exam kidnapping (see e.g., Justia's description). Feinstein doesn't expect this to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation, she expects Democrats to utilize it at a later time as a basis for his impeachment and removal.

#27  @JohnQC “Doesn't Feinstein have something better to do?”

Actually, no.

#24  We can skip a lot of this now by proposing limiting federal judgeship to 16 years, renewable once by Senate vote. Now is the time to put that on the table with all the whining going on.

#23  Agree with #19) 49 Pan: this is more for show... and preparing the battlespace for the death or Ruth Bader Ginsburg -- it will be worse if that is possible to contemplate.

#22  The way it looks to me now, is that Feinstein waited until the Senate questioning was over so that he couldn't really respond under oath.

This is just red meat for the liberals and perhaps to try to force him to recuse himself on any women's issues.

#19  She knows it will go nowhere. She knows the rest of America will laugh at her. He also knows her base is leaving her for more radical leaders. She is talking top her base that follow the at any cost mantra. She knows he will get voted in, at the beginning of the hearings she apologized to him for the noise. She is just trying to stay in power.

#18  McConnell should censor Feinstein for even bringing up this nickle & dime nonsense and should mention her spy on staff in the process so that any reports arguing on her behalf sort of have to cover that news as well.

#17  So the senator from California proposes we do away with the law and prior SCOTUS ruling that have different standards for juveniles and adults? So, can we fry a few 'utes' for crimes which we would do the same for those over 18?

#15   the senator declined to make public what the matter involved.

They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

“I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court,”

“That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further

That's in just the first few paragraphs. High School? Doesn't Feinstein have something better to do? Feinstein's response is very high school. This is like Romney leaving the dog on top of the car during a road trip.

Attempted murder of a nominee by 1000 innuendo cuts? For crying out loud, have the Dems stooped this low? (Rhetorical question). It's not going to happen. He will be confirmed.

#14  ...This one's easy: Grassley and McConnell need to stand up today and say, "Hmm. In that case, she needs to be on the Hill Monday morning at 8AM, ready to testify. If not, we're going to assume that this is just another game."

#13  The Guardian has a scoop on the letter and yes, it is even dumber than we thought it would be:

A source who said they were briefed on the contents of the letter said it described an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman that took place when both were 17 years old and at a party. According to the source, Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened, but she was able to get out of the room. The Guardian has not verified the apparent claims in the letter. It is not yet clear who wrote it.

If true, then that means we have really hit rock bottom on how partisan and pathetic that these proceedings are.

No more public hearings and no cameras in the future. Will stop a lot of this bullshit.

#11  I'm wondering how Feinstein ever got married.

Some guys would do anything for money and she routes an awful lot of money to her husband's businesses.

Still the guy has to wonder if its worth being married to that old battleaxe.

#9  Explanation of a tragedy

Chuck Schumer was visiting a Washington D.C. primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.

The teacher asked Mr Schumer if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'. So Mr Schumer asked the class for an example of a 'Tragedy'

A little boy stood up and offered: 'If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing' in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.'
'Incorrect,' said Schumer. 'That would be an accident.'

A little girl raised her hand: 'If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'

'I'm afraid not',explained Schumer, 'that's what we would refer to as a great loss'.

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Schumer searched the room.

'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'

Finally, at the back of the room, little Johnny raised his hand and said: 'If a plane carrying you, Mrs. Feinstein, and Mrs. Pelosi, the Obama’s and Mrs. Clinton was struck by a 'friendly fire' missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'

'Fantastic' exclaimed Schumer, 'and can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'

'Well', said Johnny, 'it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be a f**king accident either!'
