| [DAWN] At least six coppers were killed by gunnies in two separate attacks on checkpoints in Afghanistan's northwestern Badghis and eastern Paktia provinces, provincial officials said. Jamshid Shahabi, provincial governor's front man in Badghis, said two coppers were killed and four others maimed in Tuesday's attack near Qala-e-Now, the scenic provincial capital. Shahabi said 11 gunnies were killed and 16 others maimed in the shootout with police. Three police vehicles were also burned by the Lion of Islams, but police said they were able to regain control of the area. No one immediately grabbed credit for the attack, but Taliban ...Arabic for students... gunnies are active in the province and often launch attacks against security forces. |
