Activists Plan to Shut Down O'Hare Airport on Labor Day to Protest Chicago Violence
2018-09-03
[Breitbart] A group of activists led by a Chicago minister plan to shut down the primary highway leading to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Labor Day.

Rev. Gregory Livingston, the organizer of the march who serves as a pastor at New Hope Baptist Church, told USA Today he plans to lead activists along the Kennedy Expressway on Labor Day to protest the violence and lack of opportunities for upward mobility in Chicago’s South and West Side neighborhoods.

"We must end Chicago’s tale of two cities," said Livingston. "We will shut down O’Hare International Airport."

Livingston posted several tweets on Sunday with the hashtag #OHARESHUTDOWN, including one outlining the protesters’ demands:

#17  The handful of taxpayers left in Chicago should shut down the obama library when it opens.

#16  Bob Hope played in clubs in Cicero as a young comedian. Said they only had intermissions was "so the audience could reload." Tough room.

#15  Yeah, getting to Ohare from any direction is a cluster. I'd forgotten about the Thorndale 390 'spur'. Chicago/Illinois DOT bullsh*t (there's so much of it, it's hard to keep straight)

Still not a treat with York/Irving Park/Manheim/perpetual construction (new, improved with insane traffic control).

I'm usually there at least once every 4-6 weeks for some delightful work excursion on an overbooked flight. Usually park south end of Mannheim loop (indoor lot) and take their shuttle. Coffee (usually bad) is always included.

#14  Your federal hwy tax dollars for I-390 made worthless by the City of Chicago.

#13  Mullah Richard - use both but currently SouthWest (the midway airline) is not the best deal and OHare is closer.
I usually take 83 to Irving Park to Manheim Rd to 180. It's nutz to need to zigzag that way. Thorndale was made 6 lanes from 290 to just west of OHare and for some reason the connector into OHare for Thorndale is never built.
Thorndale Road (I-390) dead ends just before York Road which is the west border of Ohare.

#11  Is there some connection between airports and black people shooting each other that the rest of us are not aware of? Particulate emissions from burning jet fuel, perhaps.

#10  If they protest at O'Hare they aren't in the lne of fire. It's a rainy weekend so I expect the body count to be down.

#9  Gosh, 3dc. You don't use Midway and the picturesque drive down South Cicero?

I'd like to see them try to shut that street down.

Of course you could always go in on West Archer to 55th.

#8  One aspect of O'Hare I hate is that they have never made a public entrance from the west. They have been claiming for years to make it but one never opens. So everything is constrained, past Manheim Rd, to the I-190 tollway. (yes I know Manhiem west it is free but it is a single access road from the East) Most customers are suburbanites arriving from the West.

Given that the 'violence' is concentrated in certain Chicago neighbors and almost entirely absent in others, perhaps the Rev and his co-activists could occupy these specific neighborhoods instead of the airport. At the very least, they would block the lines of fire.

#2  Pissing people off on one of the busiest travel days of the year is a sure bet to get them on your side...
I never could understand the liberal logic behind blocking traffic, making people late and pissing them off in order to convince them that your right.

Rev. Livingston's 'two cities' assessment is entirely correct. One city is run by descendants of Northern Europeans. The other city is run by descendants of Africa.
