Iranian-backed PMFs foil Islamic State attack on security checkpoint in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – The Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMFs) foiled on Tuesday an armed attack by Islamic State militants on one of their security checkpoints in eastern Diyala, a local source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to the Baghdad Post website, the source said that a group of Islamic State militants launched an armed attack on a PMF checkpoint on the outskirts of Sharwin village in eastern Diyala, but no casualties were reported.

According to the source, “the Islamic State militants used heavy and medium weapons in their assault,” adding that the security situation in the village is now under control.

Bomb explosion leaves farmer on motorbike wounded in Diyala

Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi farmer was wounded Tuesday in a bomb explosion in southwestern Baqubah, a security source said.

“An explosive charge went off in al-Aitha area on the outskirts of Bani Saad district in southwestern Baqubah,” the source told Alghad Press.

“The explosion left a farmer, who was passing by the scene on a motorbike, injured,” the source pointed out.

He added that the injured farmer was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the security forces opened a probe into the attack.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in most cases, is responsible for attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq.
