| US fighter planes bomb Taliban gathering in Helmand province [KhaamaPress] The US fighter planes bomb a gathering of the Taliban militants in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan leaving at least 13 militants dead or wounded. The provincial government media office in a statement said the airstrike was carried out at around 2 pm local time on Friday in Musa Kala district. The statement further added that the airstrike left at least eight militants dead while at least five others sustained injuries. At least seven Ak-47 assault rifles and five RGP rockets were also destroyed during the airstrike, the statement said, adding that the area was under close surveillance from a long ago and the airstrike was carried out based on confirmed tip off regarding the presence of the Taliban militants. The local residents did not suffer any casualties during the airstrike, the provincial government said in its statement. The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far. Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in South of Afghanistan where the Taliban militants are actively operating in some of its districts and often carry out terrorist related activities. Suicide car bomb attack targets security post in Lashkargah city [KhaamaPress] A suicide car bomb attack targeted a security post in Lashkargah city, the provincial capital of Helmand province, at noon time today. According to the local officials, the incident took place in the vicinity of the 10th police district of lashkargah city. Provincial governor's spokesman Omar Zwak confirmed the incident and said at least one policeman lost his life in the attack and at least eleven other have sustained injuries. No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident. Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in South of Afghanistan where the Taliban militants are actively operating in some of its districts and often carry out terrorist related activities. |
