Iraqi security forces arrest senior Islamic State commander in Mosul

Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Iraqi security forces said they arrested a senior Islamic State commander during a security campaign in the northern city of Mosul, the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

In a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Alghad Press website, Maj Gen. Saad Maan said, “the arrested was a member of the Islamic State’s Mosques Diwan and was responsible for taking documents on oath of allegiance from IS volunteers.”

“He was arrested in al-Resala district in Mosul’s western side,” Maan added.

Iraqi troops kill 20 members of Islamic State in Mosul

Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) – Up to 20 members of the terrorist Islamic State (IS) group, including fighters of different Arab nationalities, have been killed during a wide-scale security campaign in Mosul city.

“Joint security forces managed to kill 20 Islamic State members, including Arab fighters, during a security campaign in the mountainous area in al-Atshana and Badush towns, 30 km northwest of Mosul,” Basnews website quoted the spokesman for Nineveh Operations Command, Brig. Gen. Mohamed al-Jabouri, as saying Wednesday.

“The troops also destroyed a number of tunnels in the mountainous area, which, after the security campaign, was announced free of terrorist elements,” al-Jabouri pointed out.

Policeman killed by bomb from Islamic State war remnants, south of Nineveh

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A police conscript was killed as a bomb from the remnants of war against Islamic State members exploded, south of Nineveh, a security source said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Russian Sputnik news agency, the source said, “a bomb from the remnants of war against Islamic State, planted on the road in al-Duwaizat village in Qayyarah town, south of Mosul, went off while a military vehicle of Federal Police was passing.”

The blast, according to the source, “left a policeman killed, in addition to damages to the vehicle.”

Meanwhile, a local source from the village said many bombs and war remnants left by the militants in the village had not been removed yet. “We lose many victims from Duwaizat village as well as victims of security troops due to those remnants.”

Iraqi troops on high alert, as 60 Islamic State vehicles infiltrate coming from Syria

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi troops have been on high alert after 60 vehicles of Islamic State members reportedly sneaked into Iraq coming from the Syrian side, a military source said on Wednesday.

“Information received by the military task force indicated that 60 vehicles of Islamic State members coming from Syria entered Iraq and specifically into Baaj town,” Col. Saad al-Marsoumi, of Nineveh Operations Command told Anadolu news agency.

The convoy, according to Marsoumi, is provided with weapons to carry out terrorist operations.

“Iraqi troops have been on high alert to handle the violation,” he added, indicating “a military plan that was drawn over the past few hours. All armed units, backed by fighter jets, will take part to end the violation.”

Marsoumi also stressed that “Iraqi-Syrian borders are so long. They need new security plans in order to control it and prevent infiltration of militants.”
