NRA boss Oliver North blames Ritalin, ‘culture of violence’ for school shootings
2018-05-21
[NYDAILYNEWS] Incoming NRA President Oliver North tried to blame the rash of school shootings across the U.S., including the massacre at a Texas high school Friday, on video games and ADHD medication instead of access to firearms.

The gun lobby's newest spokesman said the wave of killings were carried out by "young boys" who "have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten."
The gun lobby's newest spokesman said the wave of killings were carried out by "young boys" who "have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten."

"I am certainly not a doctor, I'm a Marine, but I can see those kinds of things happening," North said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

His claim comes two days after teen gunman Dimitrios Pagourtzis killed 10 of his classmates and teachers at Santa Fe High School with a handgun and a shotgun.
I don't know if he's right or wrong. I do know that when I was a kid there wasn't any Ritalin and there weren't any school shootings. I have watched my grandson playing video games and I thought they were disgustingly violent.
My mother says the same about the cartoons that children watched in the 1960s.

#13  Our Vice-Principal administered "Locker Slams" to those so in need. Also had a teacher who walked around with a yardstick and administered "Bates' Twists" (yeah, they smarted) to the deserving.

Good times. Good times. And recidivism was considered a marker for someone rolling the dice of life, not as someone in need of "more understanding" (using the lost art of Guidance was far more productive) or, worse, psychotropics.

#12  At my high school, the board of education was administered by the assistant headmaster. Who was also the coach for the golf team.

#10  Well, you throw out the old patriarchy and its Western Civ, guess what you get.

You missed the ascendency of the government dependent matriarchy in the welfare blocks resulting in shootings disbursed over a more extended period of time rather than concentrated in burst.

BTW, who administrated those Boards of Education in the 'old days'? Hint, it wasn't Ms.Glassceilingbreaker.

#7  I mean, without any lasting side effects. It used to sting like heck for a few minutes.

#6   I do know that when I was a kid there wasn't any Ritalin and there weren't any school shootings.

That's when boys who misbehaved got to meet with the Board of Education. The feedback for such behavior was immediate and effective but without any side effects.

#5  It would be most interesting if some government agency with the power to do such things, like if the FBI was still honest and competent, could compile the data to tell us how many of these shooters were on psych meds of one sort or another.

#4  Ritalin is probably less important than the antidepressants in that regard, or even designer drugs like MDMA.

#3  The iron rice bowls called "public schools" are just like wind turbines. It does not matter how many students or birds get chewed up as they operate because... Just because.

#2  When he's right, he's right. A few years ago the foul, ignorant, opinionated c*nts my son's teachers decided he has ADHD. So I investigated the subject of Ritalin a bit. A combination of, totally unnatural, robot like behavior with occasional violent outbursts - all that suppressed energy has to go somewhere, is the hallmark. And real violence in a small subpopulation

#1  Playing "Cowboys and Indiana" and yelling *Bang!*...now that was shocking. Of course today you would be hauled off for a mandatory psych evaluation...
