Russian spy: Moscow 'will expel British diplomats soon'
2018-03-15
[BBC] Russia will expel UK diplomats "soon", its foreign minister has said, in response to the expulsion of 23 of its diplomats by Britain.

Sergei Lavrov told Russian media the expulsions would "definitely" happen.

The UK took its action after Moscow refused to explain how a Russian-made nerve agent was used on a former spy and his daughter in the UK.

Russia denies it was involved. Its foreign ministry called the allegations by Prime Minister Theresa May "insane".

Russia described the UK's position as irresponsible and not backed up by evidence.

When asked when the expulsions would happen, Mr Lavrov was quoted as saying: "Soon. I promise you that."

#11  What a stupid comparison. Uzis were sold on the open market. If the Russians sold their unique nerve gas, they're still culpable for its use; it's a different class of weapon completely.

#9  Grom: they're making a lot of noise precisely because a) they aren't going to do anything significant, and b) they and everyone else in the world _knows_ they aren't going to do anything.

For that matter, has Brexit happened yet, or has it been brought 'relatively under control?'

#8  I used to have one, and may again, if I can put my life back together, get on solid ground again.

#7  There used to be certain norms of behavior between countries, Thing. Used to, you didn't make these kinds of accusations - even if you were sure. You just arranged a payback on QT.
Now about being sure.
(i) If Brits can identify the stuff, then they (and anybody else in industrialized world can produce it).
(ii) Former soviet republics (and anybody who bought it from them) have it. To recollect, one former soviet republic, Ukraine, is at war with Russia at present.
(iii) In all detective stories I've ever read - if something is too pat, it's suspicious.

p.s. What's your connection to Mosin Nagant?
The 3-line rifle M1891 (Russian: трёхлинейная винтовка образца 1891 года, tryokhlineynaya vintovka obraztsa 1891 goda), colloquially known as Mosin–Nagant (Russian: Винтовка Мосина, ISO 9: Vintovka Mosina) is a five-shot, bolt-action, internal magazine–fed, military rifle developed from 1882 to 1891, and used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various other nations. I pegged you as Remington Model 700

#6  I dunno, Grom, would you support my expulsion if they were killed with a Mosin Nagant?

An Uzi is probably a lot easier to duplicate than an obscure nerve agent, and besides, it's been sold everywhere from Columbia to the Philipines.

My larger point: if May wanted to do something besides some worthless symbolic gesture, she probably could; the worthless symbolic gesture isn't worthy of Dire Revenge.

#5  Cold snap could trigger gas supply emergency in UK if Putin orders Russian gas giants turn off taps due to spy scandal

#4  There are certain things that can befall Vlad and his evil empire which, let me say..... cannot be explained or proven.

Perhaps it is time to stop yapping.

#3  Let do a thought experiment, Thing. Suppose, a week from now, some London Muzzi is whacked with an Uzi. Would you support La May if she decides to expel a bunch of Israeli diplomats?

#2  Yesterday you were saying the nerve gas attack was stupid.

Now you say "what goes around comes around," as if the UK had done something effective instead of just expelling some pencil-pushers.

Thought for the day: if they torpedoed Nord Stream 2 today noone would know who did it, and it would hurt the European Reich and Putin at the same time.
