Steve Kroft Inverviews David Cornwall aka John le Carré (video)
2018-02-19
[CBS] The name David Cornwell is probably unfamiliar to most of you, but he's an interesting person to talk to in these days of alleged political conspiracies, espionage, and a rekindling of the Cold War. He is an expert on secrets, a former spy himself, and the author of two dozen books, virtually all of them best sellers written under the pen name John le Carré.

#5  I prefer the works of Adam Hall. The main character, identified only by his code name 'Quiller', is an old friend.

#3  Just a sign of how useless the Oxbridge MI5/6 are.

Defend the establishment at all costs at the expense of the people.

#2  Being "Spitefully Anti-American" has long been common in the British upper class. I'd wager anything he writes yet today is "approved by his masters." Given similar review would no doubt be Christopher Steele's pen farts and activities.

"JOHN LE CARRÉ: Ah, well a hard, practical reason. I was still in secret harness as you might say. I wrote my first three books from inside the intelligence world. The books had to be approved by my masters and were. But a condition was I had to choose a pen name. So I went to my publisher.

#1  ...Mr. Cornwall is also spitefully anti-American, which explains why he's on CBS. Some of his books are incredible, especially the Smiley Trilogy (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Honourable Schoolboy, and Smiley's People) and I still have no problem recommending those works to people. But in the years since, he's let it go full blast in public and in private. Unless it's an unambiguous apology for past statements, I don't wanna hear it.
