Among the vast array and great number of army fire support weapons that have arrived in Damascus (and continue to arrive) are medium and heavy howitzers (both self-propelled and towed), field guns, heavy mortars, Elephant rocket throwers and Grad rocket launchers.
Although all the artillery comes from different units of the Syrian Army, the sheer amount of it (which remains classified for now) and its concentration into a single operation is essential the equivalent of a Cold War-era Soviet artillery division used to support corps and army-level operations.
The deployment of such firepower is obvious ‐ the Syrian Army intends to completely pulverize bully boy defenses, using sheer support fire as a breakthrough method in and of its own right.
