Irish priest says, stop using the word "Christmas" |
2017-11-22 |
"We've lost Christmas, just like we lost Easter, and should abandon the word completely. We need to let it go, it's already been hijacked and we just need to recognize and accept that," he said, according to the Belfast Telegraph. What's next, the Pope banning Catholics from using the word "God"? |

#6 They should have made a distinction between Christmas (Nativity scenes and prayer) and Xmas (Malls, santa, and trees) a long time ago. |

#5 Thankfully one priest does not speak for the entire Church. Not even the Pope unless its Ex Cathedra. There are only 7 Ex Cathedra Papl documents in the entirety of the Catholic church, the last being in 1950 (Pope Pius XII) declaring the Assumption of Mary, and the one prior to that in 1854 (Pope Pius IX) defining the Immaculate Conception. So although they can do it, few actually do. Not even Saint John Paul II the Great did, much less the current Jesuit jackanape Francis I. |

#4 Maybe there could be a reset of Christmas to a religious affair by commercializing Festivus instead. Otherwise, the holy man might have been drunk-tweeting. |

#1 Just by the quote he has a point. My wife were in a dept store right after Labor Day and one of the staff was unpacking holiday decorations. |
