Jerry Brown signs bill making California a sanctuary state

 signed Thursday to create a statewide sanctuary policy.

Brown signed the bill and 10 other immigration-related bills on the same day as a critical deadline for immigrants colonists aided by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, who must file by Thursday for a final two-year extension before the program is phased out.

SB54, by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, D-Los Angeles, limits when local law enforcement agencies can help federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency on deportations cases to instances where an immigrant has been convicted of certain crimes. The law, considered the most-far reaching sanctuary policy of its kind, goes into effect Jan. 1.

"These are uncertain times for undocumented Californians and their families, and this bill strikes a balance that will protect public safety, while bringing a measure of comfort to those families who are now living in fear every day," Brown wrote in his signing message on SB54.

#14  Having said that, the US should welcome California taking this sort of step (as a Californian I don't). This will act as a magnet to bring illegals and all of their problems onto California (who can't afford it despite the virtue signaling) which will bring the whole thing to a head before Trump's second term.

#13  M. Murcek, I believe you'll find a ton of high tech, and a large number of farm products (why they are so soft on illegals) come out of California. It'd be harder to boycott California than you think.

I think the entertainment boycott is growing however and like the NFL they will only be able to avoid the issue for so long before having a live or die moment.
