US judge sides against Trump in fight over 'sanctuary cities' |
2017-09-16 |
A federal judge on Friday barred the US Justice Department from denying public-safety grants to so-called sanctuary cities in retaliation for limiting cooperation with the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. The preliminary injunction issued by US District Judge Harry Leinenweber was in response to a legal challenge brought by Chicago, the third-largest city in the United States, but the judge ruled that his order would be applied on a nationwide basis. I wonder Judge Harry, and a lot of his colleagues, gave thought to the dangers of showing the hoi polloi that the ballots these later cast mean absolutely nothing? |

#5 Well, I would guess that when Uncle passes out our money it has a bunch of strings attached and if all those conditions are met a "contract" is created. Assuming the DOJ didn't think to include a clause requiring that immigration laws be adhered to, there may be no legal avenue to cut off the current moneys. Nothing preventing a closure of the program and a re-negotiation, however. /Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, tho I am sometimes an assh*le/ |

#2 Where was this guy when the Feds (under Carter, perhaps?) threatened to withhold highway funds if the States didn't lower the speed limits to 55 mph? |
