Italy expels 2 Moroccans, Syrian as terror fears mount; Greece arrests jihadi-linked Belgian-Moroccan woman
2017-08-20
[IsraelTimes] Italia said Saturday it had deported two Moroccans and a Syrian on security grounds, lifting to 202 the number of potentially dangerous Islamists expelled since January 2015.

The announcement came as security was raised after vehicle attacks in Barcelona and elsewhere, and a widely-reported warning from the Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group that Italia is next on its hit list.

Administrative expulsions, which are not subject to any appeal, are one of the main planks of Italia’s strategy for preventing the kind of jihadist attacks suffered by other European countries.

Sicily decided Saturday to introduce barriers preventing vehicular access to six pedestrianized areas of the island’s capital Palermo, reflecting fears of truck attacks.

Additional barriers are to be placed on potentially vulnerable locations in Milan, a meeting of regional security officials decided.

The prefecture for the Rome region approved an increase in the number of guards for its major tourist sports and said it would step up monitoring of trucks moving around the capital.

The latest individuals deported included a 38-year-old Moroccan said to have been radicalized while in prison for minor crimes. His status was bumped from medium to high risk after he and other prisoners were seen enthusiastically celebrating the Stockholm truck attack in April which killed five people.

in 2015 for involvement in illegal immigration and sent to his room at a center for asylum seekers in southern Italia. There, he was caught celebrating the attack in May that killed 22 people, many of them children, at a concert in the British city of Manchester. The suspect, whose age was not released, had managed to avoid the fate of two previous expulsion orders issued in 2011.

The third man expelled was a 31-year-old Moroccan whose expressions of support for IS were thought to be linked to a psychiatric disorder for which he received compulsory treatment after being arrested for theft.

The interior ministry said all three had been flown back to their respective countries of origin.

Security scare in southern French town after Barcelona attack

[IsraelTimes] Police in the southern French city of Nimes on Saturday briefly closed the local railway station and arrested a man with a fake gun, amid heightened security following a twin terror attack in Spain. The station was sealed off while police detained a man with a replica gun which fires blanks, the local prefecture told AFP.

Spanish media reported earlier that shots had been fired and social media users bombarded Twitter with worried messages, but the prefecture denied there had been any violence.

in Greece on charges of extremism under a Europol arrest warrant, the coastguard and reports said Saturday. Authorities declined to identify the suspect's nationality but state agency ANA said she was a Belgian apparently of Moroccan origin. The woman had travelled by ferry from Italia to the Greek port of Igoumenitsa, ANA said. She was arrested late Friday on Corfu after Italian authorities alerted their Greek counterparts, the agency said.

"A 22-year-old foreign national has been arrested over suspected links to terrorist activity," a coastguard spokeswoman told AFP. "She is being held on the island of Corfu."

It was not immediately clear when the warrant was issued or whether it was linked to any particular incident.
