The Helmand governor’s media office on Saturday said in a statement that Afghan security forces have pushed back insurgents from Garmsir district of Helmand province.The statement indicated that insurgents had attacked Garmsir district from a number of directions but were pushed back by security forces.
In the ensuing clash, at least 16 insurgents were killed and nine others were wounded, the statement added.
According to officials, the situation in Garmsir district has returned to normal and security forces have control over the area.
No details were given on casualties among civilians or troops.
