[Free Beacon] Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly were sworn into office Friday evening to serve in President Trump’s administration.Before the inaugural balls, Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath of office to the two retired Marine Corps generals. Both Mattis and Kelly were confirmed by the Senate hours earlier on Friday.
White House spokesman Sean Spicer released pictures on Twitter of President Donald Trump signing documents allowing Mattis and Kelly to be sworn in, as well as an executive order on Obamacare and a picture of Pence swearing in Mattis. The two received strong bipartisan support during their confirmations.
Kelly’s wife held the Bible for him while he took his oath, and another woman held the Bible for Mattis, who is a lifelong bachelor. Kelly also did the sign of the cross after finishing his oath.
