[DailyBeast] ISIS says Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, criminal mastermind of the group’s globalized savagery, is "martyred." U.S. officials are hinting they got him, but without solid confirmation. Officially, the 39-year-old Taha Subhi Falaha, better known as Abu Mohammed al-Adnani, was front man for the so-called Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... : a vitriolic but compelling rhetorician for the caliphate whose imprecations--against America, the Shia, insufficiently pious Moslems and eventually al-Qaeda--earned him the nickname "attack dog." |

#2 Two updates from The Times of Israel, in chronological order: Russia claims it killed IS spokesman Adnani in Syria: In a statement, Russia’s defense ministry said a Russian Su-34 warplane on Tuesday killed “up to 40” IS fighters in a bombing raid near the village of Um Hosh in the province of Aleppo. “According to information confirmed through several intelligence channels, field commander Abu Mohamed al-Adnani was among those killed,” the statement said. US officials say Russian claim it killed top IS strategist is a joke: An anonymous US official said the strike was carried out by a Predator drone, which fired a Hellfire missile at the car in which Adnani was believed to be traveling. |
