The coalition’s warplanes hit ISIS key positions in the Wasiliya district west of Ramadi, and destroyed an ISIS command center there. More than 35 ISIS militants were killed in the airstrike, including the group’s leader in Ramadi area Abu Arrab. “Abu Arrab and dozens of others were meeting in the ISIS command center when the coalition bombed the building in central Wasiliya. All the militants were killed in the raid, including Abu Arrab,” local media activist Saeed Alqam told ARA News. Abu Arrab had led several ISIS operations against the Iraqi army in Ramadi city and other parts of Anbar province. After showing a high loyalty to the group, the ISIS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has promoted Abu Arrab to the alleged position of “Ramadi governor” under the ISIS self-declared Caliphate. By intensifying its air campaign against the radical group, the western coalition’s bombardment has caused heavy losses in ISIS ranks in northern Iraq. According to observers, this could facilitate a ground progress by the Kurdish Peshmerga and allied Iraqi forces against ISIS. | |
