David Petraeus: Brexit would weaken the West's war on terror
2016-03-27
[Telegraph] In an exclusive article for The Telegraph, the top US general and former CIA chief David Petraeus urges voters to stay in the European Union in the referendum"

"For the past century, British and American forces have fought together on numerous occasions in defense of our shared security and freedom. Together, our men and women in uniform turned back the tide of Nazi fascism that threatened human civilization and then stood united as allies in the long twilight struggle against the Soviet Union and communism. Today, British and American forces are once again together on the frontlines, this time in the fight against ISIS and al Qaeda, working to stop terrorists before they can strike us at home."

"I had the privilege of serving in uniform with British forces in Cold War Europe, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the greater Middle East. I considered our British comrades to rank with the finest men and women of any armed service in the world. And I know that my fellow American soldiers -- and those of the other coalition countries under my command -- valued very highly the professional expertise, capability, courage, and determination of our British partners on the battlefield."

#10  UK should be leading the Commonwealth. Let Germ/France lead Europe.

All should push for Eastern Block to form their own Alliance/Union. One that won't provoke the Russians by its existences in the way NATO expansion did.

#9  Both the alliance against the Nazis and NATO predate the EU. There are NATO members that aren't part of the EU, like Norway.

#8  TL;DR, but a quick scan indicates his reasoning does not support his conclusion.

#6  Why on earth is General Petraeus opining publically on such an issue?

Simply another installment payment on his pardon. After the Champ is gone, he will likely evolve.

#4  A most interesting question, tw. One can only speculate that someone very important to GenPet's future suggested he do it.

For Britain, leaving the EU would mean they can act in their national interest in matters like border controls, instead of suffering the mush-headed whims of their Continental betters.

#2  America, where every traitor has a soapbox.

#1  Them thralls need to be kept in line. Hey David, the American colonies leaving the Commonwealth would weaken the United Kingdom too (see - ship supplies, vital to Royal Navy, fighting piracy, el al).
