SERE KANIYE – A car bomb attack hit Saturday a Kurdish security checkpoint for the People’s Protection Units (YPG) near the town of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province. Al least two Kurdish YPG members were killed and four more injured in the attack, that took place in the Ajila village in Sere Kaniye countryside on Saturday midnight. “A car loaded with explosives hit a YPG security checkpoint in Ajila village of Sere Kaniye countryside in Hasakah. The terror attack was aimed at terrorizing the villagers, but our forces are determined to eliminate terrorism from the region and protect the civilians at any cost,” the Kurdish leadership said in a statement. “Such cowardly attacks won’t impede our progress against terrorists of ISIS and al-Qaeda in northern Syria,” it stressed. The Kurdish forces blamed the Islamic State (ISIS) radical group for the attack. However, ISIS hasn’t yet claimed responsibility for the operation. This comes just hours after a western-backed two-week ceasefire came into effect between the armed groups in Syria. |
