14-party rally rails against Khaleda, Pakistan |
2016-02-16 |
[Dhaka Tribune] "Pak Khaleda, Pakistain-e chole ja," protesters belonging to the Awami League-led 14-party alliance chanted in Russel Square on Dhanmondi's road 32, on Monday afternoon. The slogan meaning "Pak Khaleda, go back to Pakistain," is aimed at BNP Chairperson Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ... whose questioning of the number of Bangalees killed during the 1971 Liberation War has been widely criticised. After forming a human chain at around 3:30pm leaders of the 14-party alliance, together with activists and supporters, spilled over into the streets at the busy intersection. The rallies had been organised by the 14-party alliance to protest against Pakistain's "repeated attempts to interfere in Bangladesh's internal politics" and against Khaleda's remarks doubting the number of Bangalees martyred during the Liberation War. Simultaneous rallies were held on Dhanmondi's road 27 and at 12 other points in the capital. |
