Supreme Court blocks Obama carbon emissions plan
2016-02-10
"Well, that's it, then. Executive Actions!"
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday delivered a major blow to President Barack Obama by blocking federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions from power plants, the centerpiece of his administration's strategy to combat climate change.

On a 5-4 vote, the court granted a request made by 27 states and various companies and business groups to block the administration's Clean Power Plan. The move means the regulations will not be in effect while litigation continues over whether their legality.

The brief order from the justices said that the regulations would be on hold until the legal challenge is completed. The court's five conservatives all voted to block the rule. The order noted that the four liberals would have denied the application.
Un-Judicial four incompetent commies who vote Dem on votes lockstep. SOOOOO important that we get a POTUS that won't appoint another

#10  "One addition I'd make is some sort of requirement banning these Omnibus Bills"

Mia Love's proposed House Bill would take care of that, #4 Alan.

Never gonna happen - too little opportunity for graft. :-(

#8  My friend used to write briefings to be given before Congress. She would meet with the committee staff beforehand to ask what they really wanted to know and then she would make sure that it appeared somewhere on the charts.

#7  That is the truth, P2K. We also need to get rid of omnivorious bills, and require a quiz on each bill to see of a rep or senator actually read the bill. Cheaters on the quiz will be thrown out of office.

#6  ...it'll all just get tossed into another super omnibus bill and passed without a full reading.

#5  Congress should at least require that executive branch detailed regs be submitted to, admended by and approved by Congress.

Good start Darth, couldn't change the SC so often though. Maybe 3 or 5 yr terms.

Especially like the Sunset provision.

One addition I'd make is some sort of requirement banning these Omnibus Bills and requiring congress to actually define the regulations rather than handing that job to unelected bureaucrats.

#3  I like your plan DV.

#2  As noted by Andy McCarthy with previous decisions by these four, I'm willing to bet that half, if not all of the four dissenters did not even bother to write dissenting opinions.

Lock step, baby!

#1  Amendments I would add:

Term limits:
2 terms per house, extend the house of reps to 4 year terms.

Sunset provisions:
All laws expire in 5 years. Even the "entitlements". Can be pushed to 10 years with a 2/3 majority of both houses.

Supreme Court:
The supreme court will be made up of 50 justices, 1 appointed for each state for a term of 1 year. Vice president holds the tie breaker vote like he does in the Senate.

Hopefully that will fix things enough to turn our country around.
