Iraq’s Kurdish administration preparing for referendum |
2015-12-23 |
The Kurdish administration of Iraq is preparing to hold a referendum on the status of their autonomy, the Turkish newspaper Aksam reported on its website Dec. 22 citing diplomatic sources. The head of the administration, Massoud Barzani is expected to announce the date of the referendum in the near future. Earlier, Barzani said the Kurdish administration of Iraq is determined to hold a referendum, adding that attaining independence is a matter of time. After Iraq’s provinces were captured by the IS terrorist group the relations between the central government of Iraq and the Kurdish administration deteriorated markedly. Barzani accused the central government of being guilty of the developments in the country. He said Iraq is on the verge of splitting, and Baghdad doesn’t control the situation in the country. |
