'US believes Russian jet was in Syrian airspace when Turkey shot it down'
2015-11-25
The United States believes that the Russian jet shot down by Turkey on Tuesday was hit inside Syrian airspace after a brief incursion into Turkish airspace, a US official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Which means what, for USA?

#13  Remember, one of the few times Obama thought of others on the quick, was when he called in The Marines to hold umbrellas up for Erdy and him.

It must have been grimly satisfying for both of them.

#12  Blame the gun when it suits the narrative. Blame the shooter when it does not...

#10  Turkey has chosen between ISIS or NATO and decided on ISIS.

O, probably, told E he doesn't have to chose.

#6  Turkey has been the de facto air force for ISIS for months.

When Turkey announced their air campaign against ISIS they proceeded to bomb nothing but Kurdish positions in Iraq and Syria, positions that were having profound success against ISIS. Saying they were PKK positions is BS.

The cat is out of the bag and Turkey has both poked the Russian bear and cheesed off Putin. If I were Erdogan, I would start sleeping in a different house every night and hire a taster for all of my food, snacks and drinks.

#4  My SWAG is the Russians were bombing anti-Assad Turkmen in Syria near the border and Turkey decided to stop it.

Yep. And looks like NATO is referring all of Russia's phone calls back to Turkey.

#3  The good news, SteveS, we'll see that Su-35 can do. The bad new, it's against Muzzi pilots---so not entirely relaible.

#2  From The Aviationist: here’s the radar picture showing both the Su-24 and the F-16 tracks. The violation was quite short (17 seconds). According to the Turkish authorities the Russian plane was issued 10 warnings in 5 minutes before being shot down.

17 second incursion? Five mins of warnings? My SWAG is the Russians were bombing anti-Assad Turkmen in Syria near the border and Turkey decided to stop it.

Future Russian air ops will take place under fighter cover which will increase opportunities for misunderstandings, hurt feelings and maybe a little payback.

Are the Rus flying anything like AWACS in Syria?
