Cocaine packages found in body of man who died on Aer Lingus flight
2015-10-21
[The Guardian] Irish police have confirmed that a number of packages were found inside the body of a Brazilian man who died on board an Aer Lingus flight to Ireland from Portugal this week.
Then it wasn't the lamb and mint chimichurri after all ?
It is believed the packages contained cocaine, which the Garda Síochána suspect burst inside the man during the flight.

The man has been named as 24-year-old John Santos Gurgao, who died following a violent seizure on board flight EI485 on Sunday evening.

After an altercation on the Dublin-bound flight in which a fellow passenger was bitten the pilot diverted the plane to land at Cork airport about 5.40pm. Despite attempts to revive Gurgao, the Brazilian national was pronounced dead after the plane landed.
Saw this a few times in my residency. Richmond, VA, was on the "I-95 flyway" for drugs coming up the East coast. "Packers" would swallow balloons or latex wrapped packages of cocaine -- when they got to their destination in Philly, New York, etc they'd poop out the packages. Unfortunately every once in a while the 'packages' would leak, and they would end up in our ER with uncontrollable seizures. As part of the (very quick) evaluation you'd get an abdominal X-ray, and there would be the packages in the colon. Those folks almost always died. I can't imagine being paid enough to do something like that.

Ah, yes, Dr. Steve - the joys of working at "MC-Free."* I remember it well (if not fondly). ;-p

*MC-Free = MCV (Medical College of Va., Level 1 trauma unit that had to take everybody) to the uninitiated.

#1  in which a fellow passenger was bitten

Cancel the zombie apocalypse.

BTW, if he has no off-springs then he is a Darwin Award candidate.
