[RFE/RL]Russian officials say they have arrested a group of people planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Moscow. The National Antiterrorism Committee said that "criminals" were arrested at an apartment in western Moscow, where security forces found and defused an improvised explosive device. It is not yet clear what, if any, broader organization the suspects might belong to.
Putin has cited the dangers of Daesh militants attempting terrorist attacks in Russia in defending his decision to carry out air strikes in Syria. He said in a television interview broadcast on Russian television that the threat of terrorism in Russia "had already existed" before Moscow began bombing targets in Syria. |
