Nuclear is death
2015-10-07
h/t Jerry Pournelle
The exclusion zone around the Chernobyl nuclear plant, which was evacuated in 1986 after a devastating explosion and fire, has become a wildlife haven on a par with heavily-protected nature reserves, scientists have found.

A detailed survey of the huge forested area around the stricken plant has revealed that it is teeming with large animals such elk, roe deer, red deer, wild boar and wolves despite being contaminated with radioactive fallout.

The scientists found no evidence to support earlier studies suggesting that wildlife in the region had suffered from the radiation released after the Chernobyl accident of 1986 which sent plumes of radioactive emissions across much of northern Europe, causing radiation "hotspots" within the exclusion zone.

#4  Are their reserves greater than America's, now that fracking is a viable option? Incidentally, Israel found oil in the Golan recently, to add to their natural gas finds.

#2  "... the problem is the Islamofascists control the biggest reserves"

And thanks to their rear guard ("Progressives"), it will be so for a long time.

#1  russia has been quite keen on putting this story out for some reason

if you search YouTube for *chernobyl* you will find they have have stacked the search results with a propaganda video about how wonderful the wildlife is and how chernobyl is no problem

but the health effects of radiation are well known and have been for decades.

And chernobyl was a big deal. after chernobyl the rates of down syndrome births as far away as Ireland increased

Russia rotated the workers around and did not follow up on health studies so the true numbers of cancers to show in later years would not be counted. The local people of Pripyat were evacuated and dispersed.

in short there is a snow job *still* going on trying to hide the death toll and after effects

the truth is that fossil fuels are the greenest, cleanest, most efficient fuels we have. the problem is the Islamofascists control the biggest reserves
