A second attack on Turkey's Misrata consulate
2015-10-02
[Libya Herald] The Turkish consulate in Misrata is reported to have been attacked for a second time in a week.

Stills from CCTV footage circulating on social media appear to show a battered white pickup without plates, stopping in front of the building. It is being said that the video was taken early this morning. However none of the screen grabs is time-stamped.

In a distant indistinct shot, an individual who appears to be masked, gets out of the vehicle at about the same time that smoke from a small kaboom seems to be billowing into the street.

The consulate has been shut since an attack three days ago, in which a grenade was thrown at the building. That incident was thought to be related to the new Turkish requirement for Libyans to obtain visas, which has caused considerable ill-feeling, particularly in Libya Dawn

-controlled areas. The only damage in that attack was to the outer wall of the consulate.

It was not possible to contact anyone from the Turkish embassy to confirm details of this apparent new attack. It is not know if consular staff had actually been withdrawn from Misrata after Monday's attack. The Libya Herald was told at the time that the consulate would reopen as soon as the authorities could assure its security.
