Dr Naeemul Arfeen was picked up by a team of Rangers personnel from near his house in the Essarpura locality of the city on Sunday.

Dr Arfeen is said to be the 'sector in-charge' in the MQM's organizational structure. According to sources, the activist was taken into custody in a raid and shifted to an undisclosed place for interrogation.

Criticising the detention of Dr Arfeen, MQM Nawabshah zone in-charge Advocate Abdul Majeed in a blurb said that Rangers personnel started removing banners of the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF), the MQM's welfare wing, at around 3am on Sunday from various parts of the city. They also picked up Dr Arfeen, who was a candidate for the Ward-14 and 16 seat in the forthcoming local government election, the statement said.

Advocate Majeed said that the Rangers' act was an attempt to stop the party from continuing its social and welfare activities.
