[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has issued a statement amid fears that the group may split into factions due to persistent rift following Mullah Mohammad Omar's death -- the group's founder and supreme leader.In his statement, Mullah Mansoor urged the Taliban group members not to distance themselves from the formation of the group's new leadership -- apparently pointing towards the dissident Taliban capos who oppose his appointment as the new Taliban group chief.
Mullah Mansoor warned that such moves will only prove beneficial to the group's enemies and will harm the Taliban group leadership.
He said the Taliban group under his leadership welcomes any steps and efforts that are for the betterment of the group's jihadi efforts, insisting that the leadership needs their commitment and contribution.
This comes as reports emerged earlier today suggesting persistent differences among the Taliban leadership as talks between the newly appointed Taliban group chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor and the dissatisfied Taliban capos failed to resolve tensions as a result of Mullah Mansoor's appointment.
The reports further added that the rift could result into a split among the Taliban group leadership could derail fledgling peace talks between the insurgency and the Afghan government and open the way for the Islamic State

Mullah Abdul Manan Niazi, a front man for the anti-Mansour faction, said talks between Mansour and the dissatisfied commanders had failed.
"We waited for two months and wanted Mullah Mansour to understand the situation and step down to let the Supreme Council choose the new leader by consensus -- but he failed," said Niazi.
Niazi further added that the dissident commanders will now direct their own attacks on the Afghan government and its foreign allies in Afghanistan.
"Anyone engaged in Death Eater activities under the leadership of Mullah Mansour isn't a jihadi," he said. "We will now publicly oppose him."

The circumstances surrounding the decision by Mullah Omar's family members to pledge allegiance to Mullah Mansoor is not clear so far as Mullah Manan had earlier opposed with the election of Mullah Mansour as the replacement supreme leader of Taliban and had warned of internal fighting within the group should the differences among the Taliban leadership are not resolved.
He wanted Maulavi Yaqoob to succeed his father as the supreme leader of Taliban insisting that Mullah Mansoor was not elected by majority of Taliban's central Shura 'council'.
