ISIS claims responsibility for bombings at Yemeni mosque
2015-09-03
[CNN] At least 28 people were killed in two suicide kabooms at a mosque in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, the Houthi-controlled state-run Saba news agency said Wednesday.

ISIS grabbed credit on social media for the attacks.

Dozens of people were maimed in the bombings, Yemeni Defense Ministry officials said.

The first attack targeted Al Moayyad mosque, a pro-Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ„¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
neighborhood in northern Sanaa and the second bombing took place as civilians were trying to help the victims of the first attack, ministry officials said.

This is the fifth mosque attack over the past two months in Sanaa. The attacks have targeted pro-Houthi mosques.

It's all part of the turmoil and violence that has wracked Yemen

for months, as the Houthis -- a minority group that has long held sway in northern Yemen -- increasingly asserted themselves elsewhere in the country, including taking over Sanaa early this year.
Al Ahram adds:
The krazed killer group, which has claimed similar bombings in the past, said a man named Qusai al-Sanaani blew himself inside the mosque and that a bomb-laden vehicle parked nearby subsequently went kaboom!.

The attack was to "avenge Moslems against the Rafidah (Shia)," said the statement on Twitter.

Witnesses earlier gave AFP a slightly different account, saying the suicide kaboom took place outside the mosque, after which a bomb-laden car driven by another suicide attacker went kaboom!.

But a security official quoted sabanews.net, the website of the Iranian catspaws controlling the capital, confirmed the IS account of the incident.

He also confirmed the corpse count of 28 killed and 75 maimed provided by medics but said it was "not final."
