Colonel Patrick Ryder, a front man for the U.S. Central Command, said Junaid Hussain was specifically targeted in an air strike that killed him August 24 in Raqqa, Syria. He declined to confirm reports that a drone was used to kill Hussain, but he said the British-born bad boy and propagandist was the sole casualty of the air strike. "He was involved in actively recruiting ISIL sympathizers in the West to carry out lone wolf style attacks," Ryder said, using an alternative acronym for the ISIS group. Hussain was believed to be behind a number of cyberattacks, including on Central Command websites and Twitter accounts. |
