| Village official gunned down in southern Thailand |

| [Bangkok Post] An assistant village leader was killed and a defense volunteer critically injured in a drive-by shooting in Narathiwat province Tuesday evening. The attack occurred at a roadside shelter near a tea shop in Chanae district. The village official and the village security volunteer were drinking tea when two men on a motorcycle slowed and the pillion rider fired two shots at each man from a pistol and fled. The bullets hit the official in the chest and neck, killing him instantly. The volunteer was hit in the chest and stomach. Pol Lt Col Wisoot said police believe the attack was the work of insurgents targeting civil servants and security personnel. |
