2015-07-31
[ARA] On Thursday, rebels of Shamiya Front and Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
attacked army bases of pro-regime forces in Aleppo, northern Syria, causing them "heavy losses in lives and equipment", military sources reported.

Rebels took control of several strategic points in the battle fronts of Bashkoy, Khalidiya and Nairab military airport.

Speaking to ARA News, Saleh Zein, a field commander in Shamiya Front, said their fighters attacked with Tao missiles a regime-held military base in Bashkoy at the entrance of the northern city of Aleppo, destroying a cannon (caliber 23) and killing its crew of four soldiers.

"Our fighters took control of southern parts of Bashkoy village. Pro-Assad forces evacuated their strongholds there under the bombardment of our forces," the commander said.

In the meantime, fierce festivities took place between squad 16 infantry fighters and the rebel forces in the vicinity of Khalidiya district, during which pro-Assad army used rocket-propelled grenades.

At least seven regime soldiers were killed and several others were reportedly injured.
