Toy Guns Wound 116 People During Eid in Kabul
2015-07-21
[Tolo News] Officials from the Noor Eye Hospital in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
said on Monday that at least 116 people suffered eye injuries over Eid on account of toy pellet guns often played with by Afghan children. That number marks an eight percent increase from last year.
Mom told you you'd put somebody's eye out with that.
"We have registered 116 injured people who got injuries to their eye areas as the result of children's toy guns," head of the Noor Eye Hospital Mohammad Yousof Barake said on Monday. "Eight of them were admitted and operated on and the remaining were dismissed after treatment."

Pictures from Afghan families' Eid celebrations across social media often show images of kids playing with toy guns, products imported from abroad that have grown increasingly popular in Afghanistan in recent years.

The parallels between the mock shootouts of Afghan children and the real battles going on across the country are palpable even without the hospitalizations.

But the wave of injuries has helped prompt many parents and toy sellers to think twice about whether toy guns are right for the youth of Afghanistan.

"These toys have good market here, but the government must prevent their import and production," a toy seller in Kabul named Mohammad Mansour said. "We would be happy if this happened," he added.

#3  A Detective Inspector once told me that he favored a law against unloaded guns. Said that every accidental shooting he'd ever investigated involved an unloaded gun at some point.
Said all that with a straight face.
