Watch a C-130 pilot's terrifying view of a combat landing |

Terrifying? Not so much, but still a seriously steep approach. |

#6 I wasn't the pilot but I landed at the old Hong Kong airport once and that was pretty scary. You fly alongside buildings fairly close and then as you get near the ground you do a hard right into the runway. Amazing it took them so long to create a new runway/airport. |

#5 Did a combat landing and take-off in a C-7 Caribou in Nam as a passenger. One was enough. |

#4 Similar to the approach for Aspen airport since the place is surrounded by mountains. |

#3 Standard approach into Balad. Even more fun in the back as "cargo" |

#2 Pretty much the common approach to valley flightlines. A Vegas pilot once told me the airport sanctioned the style to support the noise abatement ordinance, pilots chose it to minimize exposure to ground level wind shear. |

#1 Nice to be able to see where you're going virtually all the way down. But not much room for error. |
