North Korea’s million man army in post-unification Korea
2015-06-05
An interesting take on what to do with the North Korean Army if Korea were to be unified under the control of the South.

#5  Looks like a major airlift to Mexico, then north again.

#4  Maybe give the Northern army bluehelmets and send them to peacekeep in Africa.

#3  They would probably get lots of Aid to help in the transition as Japan and others hope to buy the good will (and the US tries to buy up any nuclear weapons).

The NOrth Korean army should probably be kept. They can be slowly drawn down/improved over time but having that many unemployed during a transition would just make things worse. They can be lined up on the Chinese border and re-trained into a big Corp of Engineers type deal or something.

#2  If you look what happened to West Germany when it reunified East Germany, I am wondering if a poorer country South Korea would want to reunify with the North which is a much bigger basket case then East Germany was.

#1  Again, CHINA is unlikely to agree to any formal NOKOR-SOKOR reunification unless it de facto gets back TAIWAN.

Also, China does not want a hostile anti-China Govt. in any reunified Korea, nor a Nuke-armed Korean Nation-State.

* TAIWAN = China's version of US Navy-DOD "CENTCOM" = STRATEGIC MILITARY/SERVICE HQ INTO THE FAR/DEEP PACIFIC.

Taiwan is key to China's agenda to establish itself as a DE FACTO GLOBAL NAVAL, MARITIME POWER, NOT JUST A GLOBAL LAND POWER.

CHINA CANNOT + WILL NOT ACCEPT ITS TAIWAN CENTCOM BEING BLOCKED IN THE EAST CHINA SEA BY JAPAN, SOKOR, + PHILIPPINES - wid any return of Taiwan in exchange for Inter-KOrean reunification M-U-S-T come international agreements as per unconditional or unopposed Chinese access into NORPAC + WESTPAC vis East China Sea + Northern Philippine Straits.

* CHINESE MILITARY FORUM > [WSJ.com] CHINA'S ISLAND-BUILDING POSES DILEMMA FOR US. OBAMA ADMINISTRATION [include USDOD] DEBATES "RIGHT BALANCE" TO RESPOND TO CHINA'S ACTIONS IN SOUTH CHINA SEA.

* GLOBALNATION.PH > PHILIPPINES, US SET UP SOUTH CHINA SEA DEFENSE LINE [PH Base access].

* GLOBAL TIMES > CHINA HASN'T BUILT ANY OVERSEAS BASES: SPOKEPERSON.

IMO Artic read, ERGO ITS ISLAND RECLAMATION ACTIONS IN THE SCS AKA "SOLE" MILBASES FOR PLA.

* SAME > OP-ED: OBAMA IS SOWING DISCONTENT IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA. China to complete or carry out its island-building plan in the SCS to the full as its response to US, Regional criticisms.

* TOPIX > TURNING POINT: CHINA MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN TRADE VERSUS GLOBAL POWER STATUS IN SOUTH CHINA SEA.

* SAME > [CATO] THE ULTIMATE IRONY: IS CHINA THE "AMERICA OF ASIA"?

Ditto RUSSIA = "AMERICA IN EURASIA/NORTH ASIA", IRAN = "AMERICA IN MIDLE EAST"???

OWG "CO-AMERICA" = OWG CO-SUPERPOWER???

* SAME > [Globe-n-Mail.UK] CHINA'S XI IS CONDUCTING THE WORLD'S GREATEST POLITICAL EXPERIMENT.

For me,
> Can Commie China successfully continue + expand "as is", or in altern peacefully "De-Communize"???
> Can the US safely unilaterally retreat, fallback, or otherwise give up Power-N-Influence in Asia-Pacific to China, Nuclear Islam, ...@etc. WIDOUT BEING EXISTENTIALLY THREATENED???

HISTOIRE' + "GREAT GAME" SAYS THE US WILL FAIL IN THE END AS PER NOT BEING EXISTENTIALLY THREATENED.
