| [AlAhram] The government agrees to continue the deployment of the Egyptian armed forces in support of Saudi-led operations in Yemen and to secure the Gulf region Egypt's government agreed Sunday to a defence ministry request to extend the deployment of Egyptian armed forces units in the Gulf area and Red Sea for another three months, or until the end of the Saudi-led operation in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... , whichever is earlier. In a short statement, the cabinet said that it accepted the request "for the sake of Egyptian and Arab national security". President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree on 26 March 2015 to send Egyptian naval and air forces units to the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait for 40 days as part of the Saudi-led military operation against Iranian-backed Houthi ...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates.
