| 12 dead as Shaboobs storm government building in Mogadishu |

| MOGADISHU -- Gunmen from the Al-Qaeda linked group in Somalia assaulted the headquarters of Somalia's higher education ministry Tuesday and briefly taken a number of civil servants hostage, security sources said. The attack was mounted by four gunmen, said Somali police sources. The attack started after a suicide car bomber an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of the ministry, with gunmen infiltrated the building. At least 13 people were killed and 15 others were wounded, according to security sources. Somalia's special security forces who sealed off the surrounding area which is home other key government installations have ended the siege at the ministry, rescuing hostages and secured the building. Al-Shabab claimed the responsibility for the attack, according to the group's Andulus radio. |
