[Sun Star] Philippine marines have killed two Abu Sayyaf militants and recovered two high-powered firearms in a clash on the island province of Sulu. Captain Maria Rowena Muyuela said the clash broke out Thursday afternoon in Patikul, Sulu. She said the marines were on law enforcement operations when they encountered a group of at least 80 rebels led by Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Hairulah Asbang. Muyuela said the remains of the two killed militants were turned over to village officials. She said the militants were believed to have dragged off their injured comrades when they withdrew. |
